Commonly Seen Eye Diseases:

Dry Eye: This is a very common experience that occurs at least once in the average lifetime.  Dryness can be caused by various factors, such as the environment, body hormones, seasonal changes, etc. Luckily, with the right diagnosis, many simple treatments can become effective to improve your eye comfort.

Glaucoma:  Glaucoma is the #1 overlooked disease by both patients and doctors.  Some may believe that high eye pressure is the only indicator for glaucoma, but the majority of glaucoma patients actually have normal to low eye pressure. Glaucoma can be asymptomatic, meaning some patients can experience no symptoms or visual changes during the early stages, making it harder to notice. In order to make an accurate diagnosis of glaucoma, doctors require several sets of eye exam data to catch the disease early on.  Damages to the optic nerve can occur if glaucoma is not being monitored or treated.

Cataracts:  A cataract is an abnormally cloudy area in the normally clear ocular lens of the eye. Depending on its size and location, cataracts can interfere with normal vision.  Most cataracts develop in people over age 55, with its severity inconsistent by individual.  When a cataract progresses to the point of affecting a person's ability to do normal everyday tasks, surgery may be needed.

Hordeolum (aka "stye eye"):  This is usually a bump on your eyelid caused by excess buildup of debris and oil, and may or may not cause you discomfort.  Stye eyes usually does not go away on its own and can even lead to more severe infection of the lids if proper treatment is not implemented soon after its development.

Commonly Seen Vision Problem:

Myopia:  Myopia is also known as "nearsightedness", and it manifests as a distant blur, while near vision remains relatively unaffected. This problem occurs when the eye focuses on an image short of the retina at the back of the eye.  The eye length, from front to back, can also affect where the light focuses once an image enters our eye. Under our Myopic control treatments, we closely monitor individual's Axial length (eye length) to better understand one's progression.

Hyperopia: Hyperopia is also known as "farsightedness." Opposing of myopia, it usually means that one has better distant vision than near vision.  In fact, the majority of the United States population is farsighted.  Hyperopia tends to mostly affect youth under 10 years old and adults age 45 and above.  The condition is characterized by an eye that is too short in length.

Astigmatism:  Astigmatism is a type of refractive error like Hyperopia and Myopia. This can be seen as a distorted vision, blurred lines, and especially seeing streaky lights at night.  Though astigmatism can occur by itself, it is most commonly found in combination with myopia or hyperopia. Astigmatism occurs when the cornea is irregular in shape.  Astigmatic corneas are shaped like a tablespoon where normally the cornea is shaped like a soup spoon (oval versus spherical shape) or where one side is steeper in curvature than the other side.  This creates two focal points for the eye.
